The benefits of having a brunch wedding

Updated: Apr 6, 2022

There are a lot of ways to break tradition at your wedding. Some brides like to wear a coloured wedding dress instead of the traditional white or cream. Other couples include their pets in the big day, or have their cocktail hour before their ceremony to really get the party started!

However, even if you and your partner know you want to do something different at your wedding you might not know what “different” looks like for you. After all, there are so many different things you could – how could you possibly choose? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place!

Here at The Stella Collective, we believe that the food you and your guests enjoy at your wedding is one of the most important aspects of the day. It can also be the area you get the most creative, which is where our favourite way to break tradition comes in: brunch weddings.

Still not convinced? Not to worry – here are 6 can’t-believe-I-didn’t-think-of-this-myself reasons why you should have a brunch wedding.

1. Brunch weddings are on the rise

Brunch has been increasing in popularity since 2004. What used to be relegated to holidays like Easter or special occasions like Mother’s Day is now a regular (sometimes weekly!) occurrence that everyone looks forward to. Let’s face it – there’s a reason it’s impossible to get a reservation at your city’s trendiest brunch spot. Everyone wants to enjoy it every day of the week!

With this in mind, hosting a brunch wedding puts you ahead of the curve and allows you to be the trendsetter in your social circle. After all, 71% of Americans wish breakfast was served all day. We might not be American, but it’s pretty safe to assume that the stats would be similar here in Canada!

So give the people what they want – invite them to a brunch wedding.

2. Brunch weddings encourage conversation

Besides the fact that people absolutely love eating breakfast food, brunch is picking up steam because we live in a world where it’s getting harder for people to find time to get together. A lot of the time, friends meet for brunch because their lives are more demanding throughout the day and into the evening. Sometimes, an early morning brunch is all you have time for!

As a result, brunch really encourages a conversational, joyful atmosphere that’s relaxed and inviting. Everyone looks forward to a brunch wedding because it’s the perfect time and place to laugh with friends and enjoy each other’s company. This social aspect is by far one of the most appealing parts of brunch in general and, by extension, your dream brunch wedding.

3. Brunch weddings are classy

From specialty cocktails to rich food, brunch is more than just a meal – it’s an entire experience, and for good reason! When brunch was first introduced, it was almost exclusively enjoyed by the upper class because of how expensive alcohol was during the Prohibition.

Obviously this has changed over time, but some of those stereotypical ideas and emotions are still attached. Don’t tell us that you don’t carefully choose a brunch outfit when you’re going out with your gal pals, or order a mimosa simply because it feels fancy to drink out of a champagne flute. If these are the feelings you experience at a run-of-the-mill brunch experience, imagine how much more heightened they would be at your wedding! More importantly, these are experiences you can give your guests at a brunch wedding, making every guest feel fancy, sophisticated, and aristocratic.

4. Brunch weddings have the best menus

We think this goes without saying, but brunch food really is the best food – especially when Gilt Catering is making it! While all of Gilt’s food is incredible, our brunch truly is second to none. From chicken and waffles with the most delectable crispy edges to freshly toasted bread with homemade jam, brunch is one of those meals where you get to treat yourself to something you wouldn’t normally make yourself. It’s decadent and indulgent in all the best ways, satisfying both your sweet & savoury teeth.

Brunch has also dramatically changed the ways people enjoy alcohol during the day. Between the mimosas, chilled wine, and delightful Caesars, there’s always something delicious to drink that satisfies each of your guest’s cravings. At a brunch wedding, it’s never too early for a cocktail.

5. Brunch weddings photograph beautifully

Not only does brunch food taste amazing, it also looks absolutely breathtaking. We all have friends who insist on taking a picture of their plate before eating and it’s no surprise why.

Between the bright pops of colour from all of the fresh fruit and vegetables, brunch is one of those meals that’s fun to look at. As a result, it’s hard not to take a photo of your plate!

Chances are you’ve hired a photographer for your wedding and will want them to capture every part of your day. Since food is a big part of that, make it something worth photographing! With a brunch wedding, you’re able to both do it for the ‘gram and devour it for the noms, making it the perfect wedding meal to get the most out of your wedding vendors.

6. Brunch weddings are relaxed

Our last (but most certainly not least) argument in favour of having a brunch wedding is the simple fact that brunch weddings are so much less stressful than traditional three course weddings. Since your reception happens earlier in the day, you have lots of time after your ceremony to take a nap if you want to and catch up on some precious Z’s before starting married life. That’s actually one of the biggest reasons that one of our coordinators chose to have a brunch wedding for her own special day! So if you’re not a night owl, this style of wedding is for you!

Brunch weddings also make it possible for you and your partner to make dinner reservations or head to the airport for your honeymoon without feeling rushed. No mad dashes to Terminal 3 with a sweet brunch schedule. Instead, you and your spouse enter your life together on a laid back note.
